Nova Scotians Invited to Travel the Globe on the Nova Scotia Clipper

Sept 19, 2007 - Halifax - A classic clipper sailing boat decked out in Nova Scotia tartan, flags and tourism branding set sail on September 16th from the UK on a ten-month journey to bring Nova Scotia to the world. Nova Scotians can join the voyage online through the interactive blog and video streaming as well as the map that shows how our boat is faring against the nine other countries in the world's longest sporting competition.

"This race is an exciting, interactive tourism branding experience for Nova Scotia with this majestic sail boat traveling the globe showcasing our flag, province and novascotia.com," says Kelliann Dean, deputy minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage. "It's an opportunity to raise awareness in new markets about Canada and Nova Scotia as tourism destinations and we're looking forward to hosting the clippers and the visitors they bring to Yarmouth, Halifax and Sydney."

And for those who want to take it up a notch, there are opportunities on the website for locals and media to join in on this ambassadorial journey by physically taking part in some of the 10 month journey that will take the Nova Scotia Clipper to ports of call from Hawaii to Salvador. The last leg of the journey is New York to Nova Scotia with stops in Sydney and Yarmouth.

The website is www.clipperroundtheworld.com

"The race viewer is a real hit with youth in Nova Scotia who are following their boat," says Grant MacDonald, General Manager, Events Halifax. "This kind of world class sporting event instills a sense of healthy community pride and teaches children about the world through the video streaming, the crew blog and race viewer."
